So we finished week one in the barn.
Monday - everyone was up, ready and breakfast-ed before 6:00am for MJT (Morning Jesus Time). We were all in good spirits, ready and excited to go to work at 7. The morning was a little slow, but that was expected for the first day in the barn. Once we got home at 6pm, most of us laid on the floor and groaned about our aching backs, heads, legs, hands, feet, and cold fingers. At dinner Chelsea said, "Guys, I figured out a way to be happy in the barn!" and we all were like "DO SHARE" and she said "You just have to choose to be happy. You can choose either to be happy, or to be a bum. This morning I chose to be a bum, and it was awful, but then I had a brownie at break and I was like, I'm gonna be happy now, and the afternoon was a lot better." We had Team Time at 7:30pm, and I went to bed at 9 (whoo).
Tuesday - I got to sleep innnn (until 6:15) and we all unintentionally had breakfast together. That almost never happens, because Phil is always up at like 2am. Or maybe 5, I don't really know. Anyways, we went to work. It was fine. At lunch, we laid on the floor with our feet up (we don't want varicose veins) and Chelsea stood on a chair an declared that she was quitting. She went back to work with us after lunch. I got moved to slotting for a bit of the afternoon, where I met Jake and Sara. One of my favourite things about the barn is meeting new people, most of whom are actually pretty cool (actually that might be the only thing I like about the barn so far). After work, we watched a movie and went to bed.
Wednesday - MJT again, whooo. Work happened. Lunch. Made two new friends. Work. Then we died on the floor. Oh, and Kat came back! (see what I did there?) She asked if we had any complaints about living together so far, and the only one was that Phil ate all the marshmallows. Apparently this was tragic. We had Team Time, and I went to bed pretty early again.
Thursday - After work, David crawled through the door, laid on the kitchen floor, and fell asleep within two minutes. He was 'helping' me with dinner prep. Also our backs hurt so much that every time we laugh, we cry a little bit. And we laugh a lot, so ow.
Friday - SO MUCH COSTCO. SO MUCH. Some farmer had really good asparagus (aka very thick and tall) and since Costco asparagus is the big stuff (obviously, would you expect anything different for Costco?), my line got it all. 3000 POUNDS OF IT. 3000. I wasn't even weighing or tagging any of it. I was just trying to get it off the conveyor belt as fast as I could. At one point, I had so much asparagus in my arms that I thought I was going to fall over.
Chelsea and Whitney are bunchers, which means they take the graded asparagus off the belt and bunch it, and they have to keep up otherwise the machine gets sad (or clogged). They had so much Costco that Chelsea started yelling "I HATE ASPARAGUS" over and over. She was very quickly rescued by a lady.
We started running out of space to put all the lugs (plastic totes) of asparagus (they can't touch the floor), so I just piled asparagus on myself. We were 75 lugs BEHIND. Normally, we're behind 2 or 3. NOT TODAY. TODAY WE WERE BEHIND 75 LUGS. Literally the most insane thing I've ever seen. Whoever that farmer is, I resent you. But I made new friends! Ben told me I was strong for a girl, and Isaac likes to make fun of me.
Also Dad visited me at the barn (yay!).
After we got home from work, we were all sitting on the couches, and Amy said "Guys, I think we just need to do nothing tonight, and really appreciate doing nothing." So we did nothing, and it was great.
Saturday - At one point, I told God I was done with work/asparagus. Almost immediately after that, Helen came over with Isaac (new guy, not the one from before), and told me he was there to help me. THANKS JESUS. Isaac likes country music and action movies and Dodge and pretended to listen while I talked about The Bachelor and Grey's Anatomy. He also asked me if I got my dance moves from the Grand Theft Auto video game (what does that mean?) and told me I was embarrassing him because I was singing (there is music in the barn, I wasn't just solo-ing it). Also I dance while working because the more I move, the less my back hurts.
Sunday - No alarm day! I woke up at 6:43. It was great. My plan for the day is to eat peanut butter and do nothing.
Keep praying for our team. We're exhausted and sore, but still happy to be here (mostly).
Pray that we would keep choosing joy over being a bum.
Also pray for Chels, she's having surgery on Tuesday for a thyroid tumour.
PS if this post doesn't make a whole lot of sense it's because I just worked 66 hours and my brain isn't functioning yet
